Janet Branco

Janet Velez Branco, 101, of Paauilo, died Aug. 7, 2022 at her residence. Born July 21, 1921 in Halawa, North Kohala, she was a housewife.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo; prayer service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Alae Cemetery, Section J. Casual attire and no flowers.

She is survived by son, Walter Branco of Paauilo; daughter, Eileen Elisary of Kaneohe, Oahu; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Nelson Clemente

Nelson Ventura Clemente, 65, of Orchidland, died Aug. 11, 2022 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born April 13, 1957 in 50 Buttong, Laoag City, Philippines, he was a farmer.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo; funeral service at 5 p.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by spouse, Maricel Aguinaldo; children, Gladys (Nicholas) Siepker, Giovanni (Lina Sacayanan) Clemente, Regie Clemente, Ceazar (Maria) Clemente, Ciara Clemente and Marinel Clemente; three grandchildren; and three siblings.

Corazon Maneja

Corazon Malabag Maneja, 78, of Hilo, died Aug. 23, 2022 in Hilo. Born Aug. 9, 1944 in Batangas, Philippines, she retired at Life Care Center in Hilo in the dietary department and was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. An

Urn committal will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 at Alae Cemetery (Section K).

She is survived by cousin, Louie Malabag of California; cousin-in-law, Hortencia Maneja Galima of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Apolonia Maneja Valledor of Papaikou, Juanita Maneja Sales of California and Clarita Talon Maneja of Kurtistown; caregiver, Merlie Castillo of Hilo; hanai relatives, Clarita Corpuz of Hilo and Purisima Tumpap of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna Sick

Edna May Sick, 98, of Captain Cook​, died Aug. 23, 2022 at her residence. Born July 1, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, she was a telephone operator for At&T Long Lines and New York Telephone Company and worked in the library a t​the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Services were held at St. Benedict’s R.C. Church in Honaunau

She is survived by sons, Gerard (Erica) Sick of Captain Cook, Robert (Marlayne) Sick of Monroe, NY; daughters, Judy (Thomas) Miller of Red Hook, NY, and Kathy (Stephen) Buthmann of Riverhead, NY; brother, Donald (Linda) Barry of The Villages, FL.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack Bozarth

Jack Everett Bozarth, 95, of Waikoloa, died Aug. 8, 2022 at his residence. Born Sept. 3, 1926, in Olympia, Washington, he was a retired lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy and a sonarman/instructor.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by step-sons, James, of Waikoloa, Michael McIntire of Alaska, and Frank McIntire of Washington; step-daughters, Willie Jo, of Waikoloa, and Tresa Krause, of Washington.

Juanita Konanui

Juanita “Kehukai Kehu” Konanui, 79, of Keaukaha, died Aug. 8, 2022 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kalapana, she worked for the Department of Education Kupuna Program and with Kamaiaina Kids A+ Program, was employed by the County of Hawaii Keaukaha Kawananakoa Summer Program, a member of the Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna and Hale No Na Ali’i, and former dancer for Halau O Kekuhi and Halau Hula ‘O Kahikilaulani and Leo Naheaahe O Pahae Kealoha.

Friends may on Sept. 10 at the Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha; visitation from 9 to 10 a.m.; memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

She is survived by son, Pumehana (Malia) Konanui of Keaukaha; daughters, Riko Balai of Hawaiian Beaches, Yaeko Kim of Keaukaha, Emi Konanui, June-Dale (Michael) Tavares, Miriam Conol and Emily (Gilbert) Hauanio of Hawaii; sisters, Sarah Waldron of Texas and Cheri (Larry) Foust of Hawaii; brothers, James Jeong and Michael (Dottie) Kyser of Hawaiian Paradise Park; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Konanui of Hawaii; brother-in-law, Bernard Konanui of Hawaii; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sachiko Yamamoto

Sachiko Yamamoto, 88, of Hilo, died Aug. 27, 2022 at her residence. Born Oct. 13, 1933, in Hilo, she was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse for the former Hilo Hospital and a member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and Hilo Hospital Retirees.

Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo on Sept. 11 from 9 10:00 a.m.; memorial service will begin at 10. Casual attire is requested. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by sister, Miyuki Masuda of Honolulu; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Michael Cody

Michael James Cody, 55, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 24, 2022 at his residence. Born March 26, 1967, in Milford, Connecticut, he was a drywall installer/finisher.

Services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made on his behalf to Hospice of Kona or the American Cancer Society.

He is survived by mother, Jean Cody of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Margaret Shaw of Stowe, MA., Mary Edgerton and Catherine (Greg) Pilliose, all of Sandy Hook, CT.; brother, Daniel (Harumi) Cody of Kailua-Kona; and several nieces and nephews.

James Daniel Jr.

James Curtis Daniel Jr., 66, of Captain Cook, died Aug. 19, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 20, 1956, in Ruston, Louisiana, he a high steel tower painter and sandblaster.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by son, James Daniel of Keauhou; mother; a brother; two sisters, all of the mainland; and one grandchild.

Dennis Brown

Dennis Gerard Brown, 81, of Kailua-Kona, died July 23, 2022 at his residence. Born May 1, 1941, in California, he retired as assistant county administrator for Marin County, California, served in the Peace Corps in Iran in the 1960s, worked for the federal government in the CETA program and other positions for Marin County, California, and was a parishioner of St. James’ Episcopal Church.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James’ Episcopal Church in Waimea or to St. Jude’s.

He is survived by wife, Donna Brown of Kailua-Kona; brother, Roger Brown of California; and a niece and nephew.
